The information that could serve to identify the person\nwho makes the report is kept confidential, unless the person\u2019s consent has been\ngiven. If required by law, the Regional Student Ombudsman discloses the\nperson\u2019s identity to the Director of Youth Protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regional\nStudent Ombudsmen may also, on their own initiative, process cases of sexual violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Protection\nagainst reprisal<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <em>Act respecting\nthe National Student Ombudsman<\/em> protects against reprisal people who, in\ngood faith, make a report or file a complaint, cooperate in the processing of a\nreport or complaint or accompany a person who makes a report or files a\ncomplaint. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is also\nprohibited to threaten to retaliate against a person to dissuade him or her from\nfiling a complaint or making a report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nfollowing are presumed to be reprisal measures against students or their parents:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Depriving them of rights<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Treating them differently<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Suspending or expelling the student<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the\nstaff members of an educational institution who make a report or cooperate in\nthe examination of a complaint or report, the following are presumed to be\nreprisal measures:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Their<br>demotion<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Their suspension<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Termination of their employment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Their transfer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Disciplinary<br>sanctions or other measures that adversely affect their employment or working<br>conditions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fines for a natural person who retaliates or threatens to retaliate range from $2,000&nbsp;to $20,000.
